whale of a time

We Chris put our tree up in late November this year. When he put it up, this is what it looked like...

The top part of the lights were burned out. :( It didn't survive a Texas summer in the attic. I'm actually kind of impressed the other lights still work after several ridiculous hot summers in the attic.

Anyways...we decided we should do something about this sad tree. We Chris strung a single strand of lights in the top part of the tree and it was good as new! It looks perfect in person, but the new lights photograph differently. Very strange.
We went a little sparse on the ornaments this year. I had almost decided not to dress the tree at all because it was almost two weeks into December and I still hadn't put anything on it. Buuut, we are hosting Christmas this year and our nephews will be here and I know that's special for them, so I did!

I participated in Megan and Julie's ornament swap again this year!
I was excited to get paired with Anna, a fellow nurse who lives in Idaho.

I loved the packaging she sent the ornament in!

And inside was this gem...

How cute is he?!

He's hanging front and center of our Christmas tree!
Thank you Anna!!
You can see the ornament I made her here.
I love Christmas time! :)

master bathroom reveal

I'm dusting off the blog this morning and posting some pictures of our master bathroom. We worked so hard to create our dream/budget-friendly/best-for-this-space bathroom. I posted a few months ago about our vision for the bathroom.
This was the photo we kept going back to.

The finished product has everything I love about that bathroom picture.

Here we go...

(We still obviously need some new hand towels)

also needing something for this wall...
ideas?

I love this little gem we found at Ikea! We were undecided on cabinet storage but knew we needed SOME kind of drawers. This is actually a 4 drawer unit, but the 4th drawer wouldn't fit. So we left out the 4th drawer and dropped in the unit before we laid the granite countertops. This thing is here for good!

In case you're wondering...there's no door. We've had questions about it being cold while taking a shower, but it really isn't. I stay under the water for my shower anyways. SOMETIMES there is a draft but it's totally worth it to have this shower.

Others have asked about water coming out of the shower. Yes, it does splash out some. The threshold catches most of it and we have a rug down that absorbs the rest.

Overall we love love love it. I'm proud to say Chris did a LOT of the work and we had great help from several people. So happy with it! :)

an unintended blog break

The past month has been buuuuusy! Here's a few things the Shepperds have been up to...

Driving, a LOT.
In the past month between Chris and I, we've driven to Tyler/Longview, Waco, Cypress (twice), Georgetown, Temple (twice), The Woodlands, Franklin. That's at least 1300 miles between the two of us! So we've been using our friend, GPS, a lot. :)

Also found a toll road between BCS and Georgetown that has a speed limit of 80!

I spent a week as a camp nurse at Pine Cove. I'll write more (eventually) about my time there. You may remember I did this 2 summers ago.

I spent a day at home after camp and got to love on my sweet niece! She's almost 4 months now!!

We made so much progress in the bathroom!! We finally got the granite and glass installed. This pic was after my first shower in the new amazing shower! :) More info/pics to come.

House of Shep has been keeping me busy too. This is GREAT news! :) Here are some sanitizer bottles I've been working on.

Chris hurt his knee (we think while playing his crazy long baseball game) and has been doing physical therapy to appease the doc. He tore his meniscus many years ago, had surgery and hasn't had any problems since...and this is similar pain. We are waiting for the doc to FINALLY order an MRI. We are hoping for next week!

We are playing in a summer kickball league on a team with the college small group we lead! I was at camp the first week, it got rained out last week...so tonight will be my debut. If I'm honest...I'm nervous!! haha I do NOT play sports. I'm really even sure I know HOW to play kickball. We will see!  Our team name is "That's How We Roll" and we had sweet shirts made!

Ok I'm sure there is more...but that's all I have for you today.
Happy Wednesday! :)

the one where I tried to paint the bathroom blue

On Sunday I was trying to decide between watching The Notebook or The Devil Wears Prada. Big dilemma right?

Well, I went into the guest bathroom to get some nail polish to paint my nails while I watched TV. Then I dropped the nail polish. From the height of the cabinet above the toilet.
Yall, the bottle did not survive the fall.

Check out the mess I made...
(btw, this picture does not even do it justice)

on the shower curtain...rugs...pile of towels...cabinet...trash can...mirror...counter...baseboard....

I could have cried.
All this happened while my husband was napping.
But what does he say when he wakes up and sees what his wife has been up to?
"You wanted to repaint anyways, didn't you?"
Haha I love that man! :)

Thankfully I bought a bottle of nail polish remover last week. But I didn't buy enough to remove nail polish in the whole bathroom! So three more bottles and several HOURS later, I fiiinally got out what I could.

Unfortunately nail polish also removes paint....so we will eventually have to repaint the wall and the baseboards...aaand replace the shower curtain, trash can and rugs.

Kids, HOLD ON TO YOUR NAIL POLISH!!!!!!!

sweet grins

My sister, brother-in-law and niece came to visit us a few weekends ago. From my pictures you would never even know Katy and Cody were here! Hopefully I'll be better about getting some pictures of all of us next time!

Here's some pictures of my precious niece! She was 9 1/2 weeks then. She's started to smile a bit when you make faces at her and I took full advantage of that. :)

We went to the A&M softball game and Brooklynn learned how to play. ;)

We were at Target and I just wanted her pic with the sunglasses but I didn't want to buy them. She did not tolerate that very long!

Oh how I love baby mohawks!

Cutest little Aggie ever!!!
